Emily shares the sense of achievement she gets from running and seeing friendly faces out running around Mackay.
Q: What do you like about running?
A: I like to run as it contributes to the way I approach life. During and after a run, I feel strong, confident, and most importantly happy! My happiness when running, comes from the wonderful community that I train with, pursuing goals and I love pushing my limits.
Q: Would you recommend running and if yes, why?
A: Yes, absolutely. I hear this comment all the time, “Oh no… I could never run”… Guess what? I said that once too! Put one foot in front of the other, little by little each day, before you know it, you are running. The sense of achievement is well worth it!
Q: What distance are you training for?
A: 21.1km Half Marathon
Q: What other runs you have done?
A: This will be my 6th Half Marathon. 3rd BMA Mackay Marina Run Half. The last half marathon I completed was in Yeppoon 2020. I have also run a half marathon as part of a 70.3 Ironman triathlon in 2018.
Q: What goals (running or otherwise) do you have for 2021/2022?
A: My big goal for 2021 is to run the Gold Coast Marathon in July
Q: Do you usually train solo or as part of a group?
A: I train both solo and in a group. I currently love training with On the Run and Mackay Road Runners.
Q: What do you like most about MMR?
A: As a born and bred local girl I love seeing all the familiar faces running along the popular locations of Mackay in the Mackay Marina Run.
Emily’s running tip: I was once given a wise piece of advice. Never try anything new on race day!! Whether it be nutrition, shoes, race belt etc. Nothing worse than a bad bit of chaffing from an awkward pair of shorts or an unnecessary pit stop from bad nutrition.
