Imogen runs every chance she gets, find out why in our Q & A with 12-year-old Imogen.
Q: What do you like about running?
A: I love the way it makes me feel free and that you can do it anywhere anytime.
Q: Would you recommend running and why?
A: Yes, because it has a number of health benefits, both physical and mental.
Q: What distance are you training for in this year’s BMA Mackay Marina Run?
A: I will be doing the Kids 3km.
Q: Tell us about some other runs you have done?
A: I do lots of fun runs with my mum and Triathlons too. Some of my favourites have been:
- The Panorama Punish – A 6Km run around Mount Panorama in Bathurst NSW
- The Edgell Jog – 8km fun run, Bathurst NSW
- Sydney Running Festival – 5Km family fun run
- Whitehaven Beach – 5Km fun run
- Mackay Cystic Fibrosis (run for a cure) – 5Km fun run
- Mackay Marina Run – 3Km fun run
Q: What goals (running or otherwise) do you have for 2021/2022?
A: To make the Capricornia Cross Country team and then train for QLD States.
Q: Do you usually train solo or as part of a group?
A: I train with ‘All Sports Speed and Endurance’ twice a week and then I do some longer runs with my mum as well.
Q: What do you like most about the Mackay Marina Run?
A: I really enjoy running out the Mackay Marina Wall, it is so pretty to be able to see the ocean whilst you are running. It’s a great 3Km course too. I won my age group in 2019, and I’d like to try and do that again this year.

A memorable moment: When I competed in my first Mackay Marina Run in 2018, I tripped over about 200m into the race and had skin off everywhere. I was covered in blood and was unable to finish the event. I was very lucky to be fixed up by the first aid officers, they were so lovely. I was sad though, as I knew I wouldn’t be able to wear the T Shirt, because I didn’t complete the event.
