Queensland Half Marathons That Should Be on Your Run List

Queensland is home to some of Australia’s most scenic half marathons. Whether you’re running for a PB, the view, a new challenge or simply the destination, Queensland has a race to suit every kind of runner.

If we say so ourselves, a standout is the BMA Mackay Marina Run, a half marathon fast becoming known as one of Queensland’s best regional running events.

If you’re building your 2026 run calendar, make sure these Queensland half marathons are on your radar.

BMA Mackay Marina Run

June 7, 2025

The flat, fast and scenic Mackay Marina Run is known for its tropical course that will see you run through a palm-lined marina, beachside and along the Pioneer River – one of Queensland’s only blue rivers.

The vibrant atmosphere, flat course and scenery and the convenience of the Mackay Airport have made this event one of the most enjoyable and accessible half marathon events in Queensland.

The run is also becoming popular with elite Australian and international runners due to its high bonuses for breaking race records.  Elite runners have the very real chance of taking away $8K from the event if they win the 21.1km half marathon AND break a race record.

Mackay is also affordable and easy to travel to, with flights, trains and bus options, making it the perfect destination for a running getaway. While in Mackay, waterfalls, national parks and island day trips are available to enhance your running holiday weekend.

Great Whitehaven Beach Run

June 22, 2026

Held on the pristine sands of world-famous Whitehaven Beach, this event offers a rare opportunity to run 21.1km alongside the turquoise waters of the Whitsundays.

If you’re looking to back up your effort at the BMA Mackay Marina Run with another mid-year coastal race this is the perfect option.

Airlie Beach Running Festival

July 19, 2026

Set in the Whitsundays, the Locus Surveys Airlie Beach Half Marathon combines tropical vibes with a scenic two-lap course through the Coral Sea Marina to Cannonvale Beach.

The running festival is also a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) so the courses AIMS certified, meaning times recorded can be an Olympic qualifier.

If you’re planning your 2026 run calendar, make Mackay a must-run destination.

With a vibrant community cheering you on, a picturesque coastal course and a growing reputation as Queensland’s best half marathon, the BMA Mackay Marina Run delivers an unforgettable experience for runners across the country.
