Introducing our new BMA Mackay Marina Run Race Ambassador for 2024 – Krishna Stanton! We are so excited to have Krishna involved this year – she truely is an Aussie icon!
Krishna represented Australia at numerous World Cross Country Championships, World indoor Championships (3000m), the Commonwealth Games (10,000m) in Victoria, Canada, and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona (3000m). She was the winner of the Sydney City to Surf in 1992, a Silver medallist in the marathon at the Manchester Commonwealth Games and 2002 and is still running to this day, having broken the World Record for the Women’s Marathon in the 55-59 age group at the London Marathon in 2022.
What better way to welcome a legend to our event than by asking Krishna for her top race prep tips. See below to race prep like a pro:
- Try and be really consistent with training for the next 4 weeks including a long run of up to 15 – 18 km the next two weekends ( this will build your confidence).
- Get a massage and prioritise recovery and sleep
- You can’t get much fitter with only a few weeks left so don’t play catch up if you have missed any training
- Trial your race day outfit, socks and shoes so that you know there are no issues with chafing, blisters etc
- Practice any nutrition (gels) or drinks on your long run
- Look forward to a taper (easy) week before the race so that your legs feel fresh, this is the time to really hydrate, eat well and get good sleep.
- Remember running is so often mind over matter, don’t over think things and know that you have prepared as well as you can so that you can look forward to the event and be really proud of your achievement.
Happy running! Don’t forget to tag us on socials at training! Instagram or Facebook.
